Wiimote + AoC = ?

Posted July 15th, 2008 by Isobelle

Reader Thules posted in one of my patented Conan Complain-o-Fests about how he was tempted to rig up his wiimote for Wiisports style melee sword swinging action to pull off combos. Call me crazy, but that actually sounds like it would be kinda sweet! Well, for proof of concept anyway. I imagine once I’d done it for an hour or so, I’d be back to finding myself bored with the game itself, but it turns out there’s a whole project in full swing to get this wiimote thing realized.

For those living under rocks, there’s been a community project focused on getting the wiimote to play with a PC for a while now called GlovePie. The wiimote is essentially a bluetooth HID Device, so assuming you’ve got the bluetooth stack installed, and a cheap USB receiver plugged in somewhere on your system, you’re pretty much good to go. From what I can see (I haven’t tried it myself, dunno if it’d be worth 15 bucks to resubscribe to AoC for an hour of entertainment), the control scheme seems pretty ironed out. This makes sense, as AoC will eventually end up on the xbox, and therefore has a pretty “controller friendly” system in place. Rigging it up to work with the wiimote deserves some props though, umm… yo.

Dawg.

Word.

Big shout out to… okay, wait. Nevermind. That’s gonna stop right there. Anyway, take a look at the control scheme, and if you fit the bill (got a wii, AoC, bluetooth, loincloth), make a freaking video and post it up here. We won’t laugh, I promise.

Full details of the project itself can be found on the Wiimote Your Conan Google Group page. Enjoy.

I just received my PS2 converter for the DDR pad, and the IR bar for the Wiimote, so I'll try it out and tell you how it goes!

Going to be hard to get a picture of it since my camera is my shitty 2MP cell, but I'll try.
