From There, to Here

It’s four in the morning; do you know where your eyeballs are? Mine are vibrating in their sockets, trying to free themselves from my skull. Years of writing, gaming, and story telling have brought me to this moment. If it had eyes of its own, and maybe a larynx… the half-empty (half-full if you’re an optimist) can of cola at my side could tell you a story about late nights of cackling and button-pushing both literally and metaphorically.
If anyone were to ask me how this website started, I’d say that this all began when a couple of young gamers crossed paths inside a virtual world. They became great friends, and ran amok. They created havoc in ways that the game designers hadn’t intended for, and in some instances, tried to put a stop to.
Frybread, said it best, in a brief tale of how World of Warcraft is like a carnival ride at Disneyland. When I asked him about it, he said, “Please keep your arms safely near your keyboard”. It's as though the creators of our most beloved MMORPGs don’t want us to stray from the tracks that have been laid down for us. Meanwhile, some of us can’t help but jump the tracks, make our own sideshows, and see where else we can go.
Over the years, we shared our favorite track-jumping moments in tales such as Fansy The Famous Bard, Swamp Defense, Ask The Barrens and Lord Sargeras’s Holy Bingo Hall. We understood that we needed a place for “things like that”, for “people like us” and even though the kind of site that we wanted to write for didn’t exist yet, we decided to make one. Today, many more writers join us, and we’re proud to entertain you.
This is a website for those of you who’ve wanted to jump the tracks. For those of you who’ve found yourselves playing in a game that drove you nuts, although you kept on playing it anyway. It’s for anyone who couldn’t find his or her way out of High-Hold Pass in 1999. For anyone who has crawled into bed as the sun came up, and for anyone who kept right on playing into the next day. For anyone who has said, “Just forty-five more boars, and I’ll level!” And it’s especially for those of you who have “retired” and keep coming back—we love you.
Consider this our Valentine from us, to you.
And don’t worry; because you’re not addicted… you just need to get this last bubble before the next expansion.
