C/P for EU PVP Forums

I started on Ragnaros in april last year, few days after realm was open. I choose class that I always play first in RPGs (this is my first mmorpg), paladin.

I never had clear idea to go for rank 14 becouse in those days when WoW just started to crawl into our lives, we didint know much of pvp/pve bla bla...
I was enjoying playing, lvling up paladin, random pvp, raiding citys UNTIL BGs were introduced.
At the first I liked the idea becouse after all I started on PVP realm couse I wanted some pvp action and tbh thats the only thing that I really wanna do in World of Warcraft.

Then I saw rank 11 epic mount and I thought better to try to reach rank 11 and epic mount for 90g then to grind for paladin epic, lots cheaper and I start to farm honor.
From that point everything changed, new patches came, DK was there so I couldnt afford anymore to raid TM or main citys becouse of DK and that would mean to lose % in rank and that would definitly moved me away from epic mount, so WoW became waiting for BGs to start and nothing more.

My guild was pretty PVE so I played in random groups and reached rank 11 and after that got invitation to best PVP guild on Ragnaros - Godlike.

With great premade group we had, things became a little bit easier but still I needed time to spent in BGs to mantain and advance in rank. In that time AB games lasts 5-7 mins and WSG for about 7-9mins, well what to say, horde wasnt organised.

As time passed, 11 of our memebers hit GM and took the well deserved rest and others keept trying to hit famous rank 14.

Then, UDW came... First Horde premade with Undeadwomen as their leader, and first time that GL lost a game in BGs, those guys were good. Things started to complicate and farming became harder.

A little bit after that Godlike turned to PVE becouse 11 ppl hit 14 and they wanted to start something else then mindless honor farming.
So I had to make coalition with other PVP guilds to make premade so we could continue farming.

Anyway, we had premade we played a lot especially after rank 12 when decay was so big that you have to push yourself up the the limits and that means 12-16hrs per day, with very short breaks at least for food

Rank 13 came and at that point I was already too tired to continue that I thought to quit damn honor farming but then again I was too close to reach my goal to quit (rank 14 as my new goal, cant even remember when I decided to go for it).

8 (eight) weeks passed since rank 13 and finally I got rank 14. Wednesday I was so sick I couldnt even get out from bed to check did I really hit 14...

Was all this worth it? Hmmm, still dont know the answer to this question when ppl asks me. Yes and No would be fair answer.

At the end I have to mention that I have girlfriend, I have job and thats the reason why it took so long for me couse ofc I didint want to dump my gf and job couse of a damn game with the most idiotic system I ever saw, but choice was mine. Thx to her I reached rank 14 otherwise wouldnt be possible (and yes I was off the work lots of time, luckly I am sys admin and my network was working excellent so that gave me some time to run away from job earlier to play more wow).

So, grinding for rank 14 is very, very hard and I dont recommend it unless you have a lots of free time or GF that can understand your wish to reach 14 and dont making problems if you didnt go out with her few days in a row

p.s

1.11 coming, pvp armor updated automaticly (altough sux for paladin, why the hell I need so much mana??? bring me back my damn crits, Im not damn healbot) and we surely deserved that.
But what about weapons?? Grind again?
Blizz are you out of your fukkin mind?!?

Its hard enough to reach rank 14 once, try to respect those who are playing by your rules in the most stupid system in the gaming history.
We beat the system we deserve rewards.

Forgot to mention that I started honor farming in August/September and hit 14 in 3rd of March...

Im a rank 13 Warlock ( Will be this wensday comeing any way. Monday today )

I dont remember why I started out to pvp. Maybe I wanted gear for my Warlock. My Warlock is a Alt Character, so I wasent alowed to come BWL nor AQ40. Any way, from rank 4-7 I was in PuG. I was amazed at how much honor I was doing solo. 100k a week!!! I never thought I could do that. I was thinking to my self, im getting rank each week! New gear for me! I should continue. Along the way I found a team. The best Alliance fix team.
I have been in this team now for 5 months or so. Ive seen 6 of my team mates become GM.
Im now stuck in pvp. You cant obtain rank 13 and just quit ... You have to finish. Now im pushing for 14... I know it will be hell on earth. There is no cap on my server. HUGE compertision for standings .... You miss one day of pvp .. hell you miss 4 hours of pvp and its game over for your standings that week...

I realy do think Bliz should change it some how. If they wont change it ... Make the gear better! Better then BWL, AQ40. The time you have too invest in pvp is AMAZING. BWL gear is 4 hours ... Yes, you do need 40 people, but come on! Any way ... I need more coffee ... back to the grind

BWL/AQ gear you need 40 people to obtain... Once a week.

HWL/GM gear you need 5-10 dedicated people to work with you at least 8 hours every day during the week.

You simply cannot compare the two.

It needs to be fixed.

GOD!

I know PVP is extremely had... I am personally a Full tier 2 right now... and I don't even spend more than 2-3 hours a day (the raiding time of my guild is from 10 to 12.. And I don't even play every day, somehting like 70% so... I would play... what, 3 x 4? 12 hours a week? I still think I play too much... And Somethimes think I should play less)

But those guys are just ill. Yes, when your friend tells you (you are ill..., visit a medic) THEY ARE ACTUALLY RIGHT!

I think that the worst thing about this is the last question:
"What would you tell your son if he told you he was going to try HWL?"

I WOULD TELL HIM NO! WTF, you'd tell your son to get a comfy sofa, get 20 k more, looooooose all his friends, looooooose his social life? Get that for your own life if you want, I don't mind... But please, be responsible for your child. It's not a joke.

I hope that if you somehow manage to get a child in non-wow hours, you can at least dedicate the same amount of time you dedicate to wow. REALLY DEDICATED, not explaining him how he has to capture the flag 500 times a day.

Gratz for the rank 14 ;P!

I'm going to play devil's advocate here, because my parent would.

I'd let him.

In fact, I'd encourage him.

If he would put that much time, effort, and dedication into getting anything, I'd encourage him. Why do you lose your social life? They don't understand/get you or your goals. I would, in this case, so I would be there to help him.

Some people don't get why anyone would want to climb Mount Everest. To some extent, this is the Mount Everest of WoW achievments.

Let your child proove that they can do whatever task they set themselves against. It's the least harmful thing that could come from it.

That is not true. Yes the lack to the guy standing number one this week does affect how many points you get, BUT it is by far not the only influence and it is not linear at all. I always placed second and I scored best in that week, when my distance was the highest. I didnt get more during the weeks we planned the honor. Personally I think, the main influence is the distance to the average-honor of your fraction.

To the poster above id like to say:
WoW totally fills the gap when all your social life goes amiss. You get in touch with other people very easily, you always have someone to talk to, even the whole night long, and (even more important) you always have something to talk about! Goals are defined easily as well and you can work hard solo (pvp) or in large groups (instance raiding) to reach these goals and if you are willing you even can develop some skills like leading skills (found a guild or try to organise a pickup raid on a worldboss) and patience (achieving high ranks is only about patience and belief in yourself - otherwise you go mad and quit early). The point is, this environment exist only in bits and bytes and these friendships mostly only in your head. Which of your ingame friends will call you when youre in hospital? Which one will pay your bills? Who will come and visit you when you cant play anymore and feel alone? None. This experience made me quit WoW. The thought simply made me sick of myself-

The past couple months I've played at least 12 hours a day. I've blown through 3 MMO's, WoW being the last one I've reached end-game on (took me about three weeks or so, MC/BWL geared, rank 10 warlock on Blackhand. Grinding up a shadowpriest currently). Of my friends, I'd say a good dozen or two would do all of the things you mentioned above.

I never abandoned them during my play time, and they have yet to abandon me. I've had guild parties with them in the past, hung out with them quite a bit, talked with them over the phone, and I've had about four who were within driving distance visit me the last time I was hospitalised. The others I talked to over the phone. Even when I left their guild to join an upper-level raiding guild, they still remained my friends.

I'm sorry your experience hasn't been the same.

BTW, for those of you that know me, it's all about the Rutabagas. =P

Lol, learn2read, where is written that dependence is linear? I said that ppl can get max progress with 1st standing (you can't get more, no matter how much honor you get) and others get obviously less than max progress, if you set it up properly ppl can get almost max progress.

And progress (points in ranking you get each week) also depends of how much you have actually, so you could got more when you had less :P

Meh. I'm out of school for the moment, currently taking a vaction. So my days usually consist of a morning work out followed by whatever I want to do... And I like to game. You might as well as someone who likes to read "how they're able to do it."

I was just curious. I like to read and I like to play video games, but I also have to go to work and stuff, which forecloses doing anything on my own time for 12 hours a day for several months at a time. I am just interested in the lifestyles that allow people to do that, not what makes people want to do it at all.

Lets hope the PvP farmers have to grind to 14 again to get the updated sets. WoW pvp is a joke and if u get a good team bah can get rank in a couple of months 5 hours a day. To get full pve sets takes a lot more work blood sweat and tears so screw the pvpers until they sort out proper pvp in wow

Default lol paladin

a friend of mind grinded to rank 13 with his paladin...in pick up groups. It took forever. Now blizz is changing his armor set from being +crit, to what is basically a healing set. There is no way he can keep the old one and he is pissed. He still pvp's once in awhile, mostly in pick up groups, and you don't get any CP for healing unless you are in a raid. lol pwnt.

Blizzard hates pvpers, and blizzard really hates paladins

I hope its obvious that pve >pvp grind, even when you take into consideration all the drama that comes with pve raiding. As a former rank 14, I would encourage people to get into a good pve guild, and pvp on the side.

Default HWL

Hey guys, i just found your site yesterday and love it. The antics and humor are second to none. But i found this nifty little topic nestled quietly down at the bottom of the news bin and i figured id take a look.

For you see I am myself a rank 14 (warrior on Burning Legion). So i figured id offer some incites on this pain in the ass endeaver. First off I have to admit I did NOT do this alone, my younger brother helped me tremendously. We had very complementing schedules, i work my "career" 8am-4pm and he worked evenings 5-10. And honestly after reading some of these testemonies, i have to say they are overly dramatic.

Take this as it is because there is no doubt about it GETTING RANK 14 IS THE HARDEST GAMING TASK EVER. You get no breaks, you get no sympathy, the system is wretched, and your allies on the field are your enemies in the rankings. I have since taken up raiding (anyone who whines about a zg/mc/bwl/aq20/ony rotation can blow me) its such a breeze compared. Need to miss a week, no big deal your gear doesnt rot off your body. Sure you might miss some drop you were hoping for but youll make many more runs. At rank 12, you miss a week, hang it up.

All this aside I was still able to maintain a social life keep my job and gf and keep in touch with friends and family while not becoming more of an alcoholic than I already am. Like I said maybe the trick was scheduling and being blessed with a little brother who pwns face at pvp. The guild i was in backed me the whole way, basically they said take as much time as you want to pvp, if you achieve hwl we will award you dkp for every boss kill we got while you were at it. If i take the same interview posed in the article i would have answered in the following:

(this is all from memory so if i miss a question sorry)

Time: 10hours a day is enough, just dont miss, outside of 10 hours is off-peak pvp and you are wasting sleep/eat/breath time. This is an endourance run nothing more so dont lose sanity by solo bingeing for 35 straight hours.

CP/week: During my run at HWL I staggered my cp greatly, ranks 6-11 are a breeze w/ 2 people, id say we might have averaged 400k. Rank 11 was 2 shot at 600k (yeah very alli heavy server so Qs fly from horde side). Ranks 12-14 is where we turned it up, averaging over 800k for every week, mainly because wed heard of the dreaded 98% week. If you dont know what that is its basically like this, if you dont rank 2% into rank 13 COMING IN, then rank 14 will take 4 weeks instead of 3 to achieve . We had one binge session of 40 hours the weekend before achieving rank 13 (1300 hks all in warsong during a 24 hour period) however a third person was available to help during this time so it was easy too. Once you hit rank 13 on our server you pretty much fell in line with the other rank 13's we all were sure to not break each other and before you knew it we were High Warlord.

Biggest problems: The number 1 problem people have with getting 14 in my eyes is people get greedy and try to overextend themselves. This isnt a sprint its a marathon an extra 70k at the last minute isnt going to mean diddly in the long run. Another huge problem is people dont heed the warnings of their fellow players. They see these monsterous epics for sale, an entire gear set achievable without raiding or the assistance of others and you are pretty much on keel with AQ40 (as a warrior). However they do not understand that their schedule simply doesnt warrent the ability to become rank 14. Quiting a job or school to achieve ranks is insane, those are things that affect the rest of your life, this is entertainment nothing more. If you cannot safely commit your character to 10 hours a day of solid pvp then just dont think about it. Im not talking 10 hours on the weekend, or 10 hours if your gf is out of town, or 10 hours if you go to school/work on 3 hours of sleep every day (youll kill yourself), i mean 10 hours every day rain/snow/sunshine/tornado/snakes on a plane. Your competition doesnt care, the system doesnt care, ie you miss and get screwed and emo out because you didnt hit SR 1 that week and quit then /wrist.

System: Aweful and i could go on for days about this. Theres a simple solution to it all. MAKE RANKS A BASE CP AMOUNT!!! IE: rank 2- 150cp rank 12 3milcp or something along those lines. It is possible to make it a standard amount and still keep it difficult. Another thing i would like to see, is a compounding HK counter. IE: you kill 1 person you get X honor, you kill another after him you get X+15 honor, another kill X+60 honor, or something like that. This increases the chances of more skill being involved and if implemented with the system above WOULD GET THE HORDE TO FUCKING HEAL!

Advice to my kid: Do it if you want, ill help. But once you do, if you are an orc...use the 2h axe, the sword makes u look like a nub that watches too many pvp videos. Then raid bwl for a month, get nef's head firemaws cloak then spec 17/34/0 (fury) and go back to bg's...You make rank 14/ashkandi MS warriors look like lvl 28s

Is it worth it?: A loud and resounding YES, and if you have intentions of continuing play even more so. You will instantly become the greatest DPS asset to your guild, the load feels so light after achieving rank 14 and if anyone pisses you off...you kill them, end of story. For people who talk about gear its better than anything up to the 5 piece aq 40 set (for warriors).

If you want rank 14 guys you can do it, just be smart about it. It took me 4 months of serious pvp from rank 6 which even the most glorious of slackers can achieve. However be honest with yourself when assessing your time schedule. If you cant put in the 10 hours, the majority during peak, then dont do it. I hope this helps those who want to achieve it, and i hope even more that it keeps some of you antsy folks from trying it foolishly. My story sounds unique amongst those here so plan ahead and make sure u dont end up feeling like those other guys. Oh and one more thing, DONT get rank 13 then be like well ive got the armor im satisfied, if youve gotten to 13 then just do the same thing for 3 more weeks and you are done! You CAN do it and if you drop off at 13 you are going to hate yourself for the rest of your WoW career.

Gluck guys!

Rly like the idea;)

To give you an example, consider the following changes to the current system:

1.0 Leave the ladder system - As I said, the ladder system itself isn't the issue, it is the fact that the rewards themselves are directly tied too the ladder position.

2.0 Every Tuesday when the ranks/standings are calculated, reward each rank (after adjustment for the week) X number of credits (tokens) as their commission for service to their respective factions as long as the minimum 25 HKs for that week was achieved.
2.1 The tokens need to be able to stack up to a great number and be non-destroyable.
2.2 The number of tokens granted are based on the rank of the person in question.

3.0 PvP rewards would now only be sold at a token cost.
3.1 BG Potions would cost tokens and expanded to include things like free action pots.
3.1.1 These pots would have to be limited to the BGs.
3.2 Armor would be upgradeable, but each upgrade would cost more tokens.
3.2.1 The 'blue' PvP set would just be one step in the upgrade to the 'epic' set.

This system allows for casual game play without the threat of being completely passed over. Hard-Core gamers will still get the rewards first, but eventually even the most casual of player can own the equipment ... one day. The token granted by each rank would have to be tweaked in order to make higher ranks much more appealing.

Vacations will no longer kill your advancement as you will only lose a maximum of one rank in your commision of tokens for that week.

This system also allows blizzard to add new rewards without the need for everyone to fight their way up the ladder and upsetting a lot of long time players.

Another benefit to this system is that friends, guild mates, and realm mates are not 'screwing' each other over by competing in the system anymore. The current system has same-faction players angrier with each other then the people they are supposed to be at war with, which greatly takes away from the whole experience.

I posted this on both the WoW Suggestion forums and the PvP forums and the feedback has been completely positive. If you wish to keep up with them the links are ...

If you are reading this, then thank you for taking the time to read my point of view on this issue.

Taldren - Azgalor server.
Man just send the whole script to blizz before i do it and get all the glory^^
Seriousely now,u should b among the blizzard game designers. The only thing a player wants from rank14 is the wep.Perhaps the self-satisfaction as well. But none of these are...*should* be worth all the things u lose(time, money,LIFE above all).
Rly good 2 c some1 wants that game 2 become even more a G A M E instead of a 2nd work/life.
That's all.
PSry for any mistakes,my english skill is far from perfect -.-

the time when you need to realize the game is no longer worth playing is when its not really fun anymore... if you feel obligated to play... its about taht time to take a good long break... its happened to me before, dont let the game feel like work... thats what your job is for.. if you dont have a job.. i guess have fun

Default Ridiculous!

The last time I read this thread was when I doing the PVP grind at around Rank 11 or 12. What I thought at the time was "Wow, I want to be just like those guys."

Now it's over a year later, and I'm thinking "Wow, what a waste of time!"

I also did the grind to Rank 14 on the Frostwolf server and became a HWL back in Aug 06. The total grind took me 8 months. I got to Rank 7 and took some time off, deranked to 4 and then pushed hard for six months.

It wasn't too bad until the last 2 months. During the second last month, I was required to get 600-800K per week, which was taxing.

During the last month, the cp cap was gone. My team was had direct competition with another lead by a Rank 11 who was going for standing 1. The during the last four weeks, my cp was 900K, 950K, 990K, 1.18M. That sapped the life out of me.

I work full time, and still did this.

Would I do it again? Nope.

Do I regret it? Nope.

Why did I do it? I just wanted to prove to myself that I could.

What really pisses me off isn't the fact that the gear is obsolete now. It's that Bliz made it extremely easy for everyone to get the exact same gear afterwards.

How many nubs do you see running around with glowing shoulders?

Sigh.

Well, I'm retired now and learned my lesson.
